Phya Kong and Phya Phan of Nakhon Pathathom and Oedipus Rex of Thebes: Similarity amidst Distance and Time Gaps

  • Thanom Butra-Ruang

Abstract

This article brings into light the similarity of thoughts, attitude and the matter of thinking of human beings, who live apart from one another in both the geographical and time dimensions. It is a fact that the similarity is not identically 100percent, but the difference is not 100percent as well. Another aspect worthy of mention here is the human attitude towards life which is coincidentally alike, as can be seen in the “Three Riddles of Sphinx”, which are the same as those generally available in the Buddhist society across Thailand. In fact, this article is a comparative study in the field of literature, not a Dhamma-oriented article. But, both legends brought for study lead the readers to a universal concept that humans are externally or physically different, but in terms of their nature or supra-mundane truth there is nothing different at all.
