A Comparative Study of Hells Based on Hinduism and Buddhist Belief
Abstract
This paper aimed to study the comparative hell according to Hinduism and Buddhism beliefs by studying Hindu scripture sources, namely Garuda Purana, based on Buddhist beliefs from Trai Phum Phra Ruang. Which will refer to the various hells and the causes of sin that caused hell.
The purpose of this article is to study and compare the causes of sin that caused hell to fall. Physical characteristics within hell and suffering received according to the beliefs of Hinduism and Buddhism
The results of the study showed that 1. In the Garuda Purana and Trai Phum Phra Ruang scriptures, the cause of sin was caused by greed, anger, delusion, and had the intention and action of the karma successfully. 2. The physical characteristics in hell are similar, with heat from the fire. As for the physical characteristics of hell, each of the Trai Phra Ruang trails is clearly described but in the Garuda Purana script. 3. Both religions describe suffering suffered as similar. When receiving karma, then it can come back to be born on human and heavenly worlds according to the good deeds that were made when living.
