The Developing reading and spelling skills of second-grade students Ban Nong Pao School, Mueang District Yasothon Province

Abstract

This research aimed to develop reading and writing practice exercises based on the phonics and spelling method for Grade 2 students at Ban Nong Pao School, and to compare the students’ pre-study and post-study scores after using the reading and writing practice exercises based on the phonics and spelling method. The target group used in this study consisted of 7 Grade 2 primary school students in the first semester of the 2025 academic year. This study employed a quasi-experimental research design.

The findings revealed that the Grade 2 students in the first semester of the 2025 academic year at Bannongpao School, Thungnangok Subdistrict, Mueang district, Yasothon province, were at a moderate level (  =3.03, S.D. = 0.79) It was also found that the level of ability in reading and writing skills based on the phonics and spelling method among the primary school students in the 2025 academic year at Bannongpao School was at a moderate level (  =3.03, S.D. = 0.79), which met the 80/80 criterion.
