Analysis of Dosa-carita in the Tipitaka and a Case Study of the Legend of Kong Khao Noi Kills His Mother
Abstract
This article aims to reflect on, analyze, and compare the concept of Tosajirit (anger) according to the teachings in the Pali Canon with the case study of the legend "Kong Khao Noi Kills His Mother" from Yasothon Province. This legend illustrates the influence of anger on actions and the consequences that affect both the perpetrator and the victim. In the Pali Canon, Tosajirit is described as an emotion that leads to suffering and actions that lack mindfulness, which presents a significant obstacle to achieving Nirvana. This study proposes a Buddhist analysis using the principles of Dharma in the Pali Canon to understand the causes and effects of Tosajirit. At the same time, the study examines the case of Kong Khao Noi, which demonstrates the terrifying outcomes of allowing Tosajirit to dominate one's mind. The essence of the analysis reveals that both cases are clearly interconnected in emphasizing the importance of emotional control, responsibility for actions, and ethical lessons that can lead to sustainable mental development. Therefore, the study of Tosajirit in both the Pali Canon and local legends can enhance understanding and proper practice in the daily lives of people in Thai society, aiming to foster a peaceful society and promote mental development in an environment that challenges emotional regulation.
